Ocho

I got home a little early from work today. So I thought, I'll go for a run. I felt so good today that I did 8 miles at my 3 mile pace. YAY! It's the first time I've run 8 without stopping and definitely the fastest I've done it. I'm psyched!!!!!! (and very sore) I might finish this half marathon after all. It's in only 3 weeks- definitely came up on me fast. I've been training 4 days a week since June. This is the most exercise I've done since leaving Amherst. Last week the doubt began to set in. I've had a couple of tough training weeks and I was starting to think I wouldn't make it. But today changed all that. My confidence is back. I'm even starting to look forward to race day. It's not about time for me at all. It's all about finishing. I know I'll finish. And no matter what- today's run was a huge win.

To reward myself, I peeked into Twisted Lily's Etsy Shop. (as recommended by Yarn Pirate)

I'll show you pics when my purchase arrives. I can't wait!

Fresh Face

I just changed the look of my blog. I think it's a little better. But now the colors on my progress bars only show on the preview not when I actually publish it. How weird is that?!?!?!

It only took me all day... but I figured it out! YAY!

Due

I finished Joelene's test socks! YAY! Today I'm putting up my feet to celebrate. The short row heel definitely looks better on the second sock. There's no holes and the fit is pretty comfortable. I think heel flap fits me better because I have gigantic feet. But the short row heel is a lot easier to knit.

I'm really happy with how the stripes lined up. It looks pretty good. The knit picks yarn is very bright. We'll see where I wear them. They'll definitely stick out at work!

Pattern: Joelene's from Misocrafty
Yarn: Two balls of Knit Picks Simple Stripes in Sweet Tarts
Needles: KP DPN's in size 2
Date Finished: 9/22/06- I can't remember when I started

Dear Lady at the Gym,

You have no idea that you totally made my day today. I really appreciated it when you came into the gym and didn't complain about my running and watching Jeopardy habit. (The two ladies who pretend to use the elliptical machines while gossiping and complaining about their kids don't like Jeopardy.)

But where you really stole my heart was when I finished my run. You commented that I'd been running for awhile. I said, "about an hour. 5 miles." You said, "Wow!"

Seriously, you made my whole day. The whole day I spent trying to convince myself that it wasn't a big deal to skip my run. That if I ran tomorrow, not running today would be OK. But I didn't. I ran. 5 miles. And you said Wow.

You rock!

5 years

I'm not usually much for tributes. But today kept me thinking. To all those effected by this day five years ago, my thoughts are with you. Especially Tara, who lost her young husband that day.

Unsettled

I'm feeling kind of weird. I've done a lot of sleeping this weekend. And I feel like that's wasted time because there's a lot to get done. But there isn't really a lot to get done. I just feel like there is.

I did my homework this morning. I'm slowly cleaning the house. There's knitting to do but no deadline on it. So there is progress...

I should be cleaning out my junk room to make my office. But I'm not in a huge hurry about that. And I'm too lazy and cheap to actually buy a desk and chair. The buying of furniture would make it necessary to clean out the space. I have a grand vision in mind. But apparently, I'm not wanting the office that badly since I've made no progress toward it's completion.

Same thing with my dresser that I broke about 4 months ago. I can't decide if I should buy 'good' furniture or just grab something from Ikea. Plus, Ikea is such a nightmare that I can't bring myself to go there to look for anything. Sigh...

Inertia. Maybe that's the word. Moving is just too much work. So I sit here feeling bad about not dong anything. But I can't get myself to want to do anything. Vicious circle.

One Sock down, part 2

Pictures, pictures, pictures.... As you can see, I didn't do a great job on the heel. But that's why there are two socks. Then, there's room for improvement!

One Sock Down...

I finished one sock from Joelene's pattern. I think it turned out really well. I've never done a short row heel and it turned out well for a first attempt. I think the second sock will be much better. Pictures tomorrow as it is dark now. I thought I'd make it but alas, I graft too slowly!

Lazy Saturday

That's right. We're lazy. Brian and I got up at 11 and walked down to get coffee and cinnamon rolls. And now were back home, on separate computers with sleepy kitties at our feet. Pretty good start to a long, (somewhat) lazy weekend. If only it wasn't raining in NYC and the US Open wasn't delayed.

I've been feeling a little achey and icky lately. And I hadn't slept through the night all week. Anyone who knows me knows that a sleepy chicken is an angry chicken. But 2 Nyquil tablets Thursday night and last night have restored me to my knitterly self.

So, as promised, here is the yarntini I received yesterday. Thank goodness it arrived before the long weekend. I've been wanting to fondle this yarn since I ordered it 3 days ago. Yahaira and Jessie have great turnaround time which is especially important to an impatient person like me!

Across the top is appletini. Then from left to right: pure knits exclusive colorway, gimlet, and vintage. I didn't want to take them out of the plastic and expose them to kitty hair and dust. I love them all. Almost too much to want to knit them. The colors are so bright and vibrant. The yarn is cuddly soft. I need a pattern befitting these lovelies!

Speaking of great patterns, I'm testing Joelene's sock pattern. I'm not very far but I'm really excited because it's a short row heel and I've never done that. Only 6 more inches of cuff to go!

I'm using KP simple stripes in the Sweet Tarts color. I'm also using KP needles in size 1. I love, love, love these needles. They're sharp and smooth. Yes, they are heavier than my Bryspuns or my Susan Bates dpn's but they are far superior in the sharp tip and slipperiness. I just love them.

OK- I'm off to work on my socks.

One question

When did it become September?
