Almost Done

I started the 1 Cable scarf from One Skein in Malabrigo for my carpool buddy. I knitted away last night during the World Series. And my ball of yarn was getting smaller and smaller. But the scarf isn't long enough! OH NO!!!!! I finished the ball of yarn today and I'm about 50". That's about 10 inches too short I think.

1 Cable Scarf

It's really pretty but too darn short! Obviously I have to go buy another ball of yarn.

So here's my question of the day... How long should a scarf be? I tend to like longer scarfs but I'm 5'10". My carpool buddy is about 5'4". So I'm afraid it'll be too long on her. Suggestions, please!

I'm 5'8" and I'd make a scarf for myself around 60-70 inches. Height factors in but I think (IMHO) how the person wears a scarf and how wide the wearers neck is, is more important then the height of the person. The thicker the neck the more length you're going to need.
Then again I've only knit like two scarves so this could be my craziness talking. :~)

Well, I'm 5'2" and I like my scarves to be at least as long as I am, and preferably longer. I do like really long scarves, though. But yes, it does depend on how wide the scarf is. I like to wrap about three time, then still have ends dangle to my waist. If you can wrap only once and have your whole neck covered, then shorter is a-okay.

Hmmmm.....I think it depends on how she'd wear it. (Just cross it at the neck and tuck in it or wrap it round and round?) I see that in the pattern the intended length is 50 inches. I remember for the Red Scarf Project they ask for at least 60 inches because they want a "long" scarf-- but that doesn't mean a non-long scarf isn't ok for your friend. Well, I don't know if that's any help at all! : )

I like long scarves. I want them to be as flexible as possible. I want to be able to wrap them around my neck, maybe in my hair, a little of both....just want to have fun with them.

OOOH I love working with malabrigo. The scarf is very pretty. I'm 5'3" and usually make mine 72 in. or so but then it all depends on how she wears it...if its more for decoration or use.

I'm 5'4" and IIRC, my own so-called scarf is around 63-64" which is about as short as I think I would go. I think I do prefer my chevron scarf which is closer to whatever the pattern estimated it to be. 74"? 76"? Something like that.

I don't really have an answer to your question...but, oooh, pretty scarf! I recently purchased a skein of Malabrigo (in a color that looks a lot like yours) and am trying to decide on a scarf pattern for it. I only have the one skein. I wonder if that scarf would be okay a little narrower? Hmm...!
